When Katy Perry first burst onto the music scene, she was known for her wild, over-the-top, and occasionally inappropriate outfits that we'll never forget – and, of course, her fun, dance-worthy hits. The "I Kissed a Girl" singer changed up her makeup looks often and was frequently seen with a dramatic set of falsies, smokey eyes, and a bold lip color. For Perry, there's no such thing as having too many products and she told Women's Wear Daily back in 2013, "I have a [beauty] regimen that spans an hour and a half, and nothing goes out of order."
In a 2010 interview with Seventeen (via MTV), Perry admitted that she felt more comfortable being made-up than au naturel and that her then-husband Russell Brand helped her feel comfortable in her own skin. "I think he taught me a lot about inner beauty and confidence in myself. I don't really feel pretty ever, without makeup. I feel ugly. And so I would have to sleep with makeup on, or feel ugly and gross. He looks beyond all of that, which is such a win because I've never felt that with anybody," she revealed. Fans may remember when Brand famously tweeted a pic of Perry just waking up. Although he deleted it, the world got a glimpse of the pop star bare-faced and since then, there have been many times Perry has shown just how gorgeous she looks makeup-free.

The COVID-19 quarantine had many giving up their daily makeup routine for a more natural look, including Katy Perry. In 2020, the "Firework" singer shared a before picture of her all dolled up, and then an after photo in her bathrobe and without a stitch of makeup. "Pre-quarantine [to] mid-quarantine. Hope your stay-at-home plans tonight include joining me for a beautiful and breezy episode of #AmericanIdol, taped in heavenly Hawaii back in January and February," she captioned the image. Whatever skincare regimen she was doing at the time obviously worked, as Perry looked absolutely fresh and glowing.

In a video for Vogue, Katy Perry showed fans the perfect makeup for a black-tie event. The raven-haired beauty started with a clean face and highlighted her eyes with mascara and individual false lashes. "We still like to do dramatic makeup but I think we are coming into the more age-appropriate field of experimenting," Perry said of her style. She revealed that her skin wasn't as clear when she was younger so that made her put on a lot more makeup. The pop star shared that her favorite features to highlight are her eyebrows and eyes, adding, "That really sets the whole face."

We're so used to seeing Katy Perry with a full face of makeup, but she showed her behind-the-scenes look in her documentary, "Katy Perry the Movie: Part of Me." While she was trying on her spinning peppermint candy dress, the glam queen displayed her clear makeup-free skin and shiny blue eyes. "I used to be really upset about going out into the world with no makeup on," Perry told L'Officiel. "[And] now I'm like, 'You know, I'm good. I know who I am. And what you think of me is none of my business,'" she added.

Perry revealed that the key to her flawless skin was never sleeping with her makeup on and getting at least eight hours of sleep a day, per PopSugar. As for taking a break from products, she shared, "I do go makeup-free, especially when I'm off cycle from tour," adding that the summer is her fave season to go bare-faced.
